In this project, we looked at a complex droplet in a creeping flow with a uniform velocity profile.

 

The figure below shows the complex droplet, which consists of three fluids. This structure forms an emulsion: a mixture of non-mixing fluids, like oil and water.

 

In the industry, this state is used to preserve the active ingredient in the inner droplet. The active ingredient is then released into the outer fluid in a controlled fashion, only in the desired area.  Ideally, this mechanism requires the inner and outer droplets to be spherical and concentric.

This theoretical study used Wolfram Mathematica Software to find a physical numerical solution based on a complex mathematical model.
