Biodegradable sheets (made of biodegradable biopolymers), which possess enhanced blocking properties, were researched and developed by integrating nanocellulose particles into the sheets’ structure as well as their coating. Biodegradable materials demonstrate “inferior” properties for blocking against gases unsuitable for use in food packaging. This research shows that blocking properties can be significantly improved by integrating nanocellulose particles, without harming the polymers’ ability to biodegrade.
