Naim Sheffer presents a hybrid creature that appears as a mirror or window into the exhibit room in which the work is positioned. The work is of a cave near Sheffer’s home, which he found in a search for places to photograph during the lockdowns of the pandemic. The cave directly corresponds with Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave”, in which there is a representation of reality that pretends to be real and even succeeds in being perceived as such. Sheffer explores the possibility of reconstructing reality after it has disintegrated and makes attempts at creating a new reality by reconstructing the cave.

The work is built by photographing elements of the exhibit room, printing them, and placing them in the cave in a manner consistent with the form of the original room.
