A collection of socks that explores the relationship between physical discomfort and ethical problems in the textile industry, incorporating imagery drawn from protest messages and materials that are unpleasant to the touch.
The foot is sensitive to exposure and sensation, and socks are a garment that is public and intimate at the same time. This project includes six pairs of socks that become a platform for conveying a message and raising awareness about ethical problems in the textile industry: child labor, use of illegal pesticides, and lack of transparency. The design of the socks makes use of stiff and prickly materials that are uncomfortable to wear; the physical discomfort comes alongside alluring images and text that turn out to be a protest, causing psychological unease meant to spark discussion and bring about a change in consumption habits.
