My motivation for creating the collection was to find a way to slow down, observe and intervene in the environment in a considerate and sustainable way. Examination of place, locality and positioning through the existing material.
All the materials in the collection were collected from the same place: the local waste point near my house. I rely on wasted fabric, cut for the local industry, as well as construction and shipment waste- All materials have fallen out of use and have been renewed into clothing.
In my opinion, waste is a point of connection between the inside and the outside, therefore the clothes in the collection connect body and space, and stretch the connection between the wearer and her environment.
I see the wearer as a contemporary gatherer, whether in nature or in the city, and I am interested in developing feminine expressions of Nimrod’s local-mythological figure, a self- made biblical wanderer. The inspiration comes from local designs of Maskit, Rikma, Nimrod sandals, and Source sandals – the influence of local landscapes and narratives versus existing technological capabilities and materials.
