This project was inspired by Shoshana Damari, a groundbreaking, powerful woman of color and an Israeli cultural icon. As the format for this project, Ashtar chose the iconic dresses Shoshana Damari wore for her concerts. “Each dress is a visual interpretation of one of Damari’s songs.
In creating this visual language, I tried to raise tangential issues associated with the singer: belonging, personal and ethnic identity, as well as time, place, and historical context,” Ashtar explains.
