Gal Julien was born in a set of triplets and grew up in Eilat.

In her exhibition, Julien delves deep into her own psychological wounds, exploring closed institutions, femininity, body, and feminism.

These painful subjects cry out from her work, through which she expresses criticism of medical treatments and demonstrates the cruelty she experienced. The drawings are characterized by bold and sometimes even phosphorescent colors. Color is paramount to Julien, and it is the only lively element in these works. In her method, color is an optimistic and important tool for humanity. “There’s so much black and grey in our world already that I’m not willing to put it into my creations,” she says.

Julien works with colorful, “pretty” images through which she expresses a reality of struggle and hard, destructive experiences. Beauty and aesthetics serve as the base of these works that deal with such difficult topics. The imagery is beautiful and colorful, and the composition is so precise that the blinding sweetness turns poisonous and repulsive.
