Kerem Gil was born in Misgav in the Galilee region and grew up in Canada. She engages with the charged topic of sexual abuse of women and children.
In her work, Gil explores the concept of “tenderness and passion” first expressed by Hungarian psychoanalyst Sándor Ferenczi as part of his “confusion of tongues” theory.
The theory is about the communication between adult and child: the language of tenderness and the language of passion. In her exhibition, Gil addresses the questions regarding the experience of sexual abuse that occupy her.
In paintings and sculptures, Gil explores the connections between childhood and adulthood, characterized by the language of tenderness and the language of passion, and the blurry line existing between them – a line so blurry that sometimes it is not clear when it has been crossed. The blurring between the two languages is a determining factor in the discourse surrounding sexual abuse.
