“Hadeh Birket Al-Maya” is the Moroccan-Arabic version of the Hebrew children’s rhyme “Grandma Cooked Some Porridge.”

Moroccan cuisine is rich and complex yet unknown to many in Israel. In this project, Yacobi expands our familiarity with the beautiful world of Moroccan cooking by presenting five recipes by five women. Each of them shares—in her own way and in her own language—how she cooks in her home.

“Our grandmothers don’t know how to “give” recipes. They cook from memory, experience, and the wisdom of their hands,” Yacobi says.

The designer translated the wisdom of cooking into a series of five booklets, each dedicated to a different grandmother and a different recipe. Each woman weaves together her life story—and the story of how she cooks—in her own unique way.
