Spotted was developed by Shenkar Software Engineering students for the Sharks in Israel nonprofit.
The first of its kind, this system monitors and tracks bluespotted ribbontail rays. As part of the project, the students developed and implemented an innovative algorithm for recognizing bluespotted ribbontail rays. The researchers at Sharks in Israel insisted on studying and monitoring bluespotted ribbontail rays because no means of tracking this species has existed until now. Thus, this new technological development contributes to the effort of preserving the Earth’s ecosystem.
Spotted automatically identifies, documents, and classifies bluespotted ribbontail rays and can tell them apart from the countless other sea creatures that often surround them. Furthermore, Spotted can classify and recognize each individual ray.
Powered by deep neural networks, Spotted identifies individual bluespotted ribbontail rays using innovative image processing and computer vision technology.
