Material culture attests to us as a society and is essential to our survival, just as jewelry is a sign of identity. When Alma Leon sought a responsible material alternative, she wandered the length and breadth of the country, researching available, simple, and local materials. As part of the study, it returned to “primitive” strategies and manipulations such as multiplicity, laborism, drying, kneading and casting. The five chains she has created are fragile, transient, and as such simulate the country, with its fluid borders and political explosiveness. They tell their process of being, as well as the story of where we live, and our identity within it. Materials: Pottery, Salt, Sea Sand, Soil, Iron, Steel, Olive Branches Techniques: multiplicity, labor, drying, kneading, casting.
