The graduation project I designed was inspired by a personal story of mine, working for four years in the security department of Ben Gurion Airport specializing in people smuggling. As part of my role, I would monitor and follow the passengers on screens in order to identify infiltrators, who used a range of complex disguises and actions to try and get into the country. In my project I took inspiration from the infiltrators who would wear airport workers’ uniforms to blend in, as well as from the technology used to follow them and the mistakes that happened when they tried to dress quickly – like one arm out or only one pant leg. My womenswear collection incorporates motifs from air stewardesses and airport workers and the moments when the infiltrators would change clothes as they go through the airport. A mixture of timeless outfits and designs inspired by the clothes worn by passengers on flights, with a tailored fit that integrates new forms based on sketches of airplanes. I created original prints inspired by the tracking technology and thermal imaging used to follow the infiltrators through the airport and additional airport motifs, using a technique of printing on silk, alongside use of tailored cotton and wool fabrics, and knitwear created with reflective yarn.
