In her graduate project, Atalya Aufrichter presents paintings that were painted with a punctilious technique that tends toward hyperrealism. The paintings draw their inspiration from art history and photography, and are based on staged photographs and photographs from a family photo album. In these intimate paintings, Aufrichter captures the double gaze: the gaze of the photographed and painted and that of the viewer. In her work, Aufrichter adopts different levels of interference, starting with faithfulness to the original, through interruption and disruption, until she reaches emptiness of content. She invites the viewer into her inner world, her creative process, and her place of art.
