A wheelchair designed in the context of the erotica of control, submission, pain, and disability.

This project was created following conversations with an artist who uses a wheelchair, inspired by her stories of using erotic relationships based on control, submission, and pain as a way of coping with helplessness and accepting her disability.

The chair’s design makes use of materials such as leather and pieces of metal, which are associated with protecting and controlling the body with clothing and accessories. The choice of design methods raises discussion about the appearance and presence of physical limitations, on both the personal and societal level.

Materials: leather, pleather, synthetic fabric, Lycra, metal loops and chains, sewing and embroidery thread

Techniques: hand crafts, hand sewing, tying, gluing, welding, jewelry making
